Modify Summary Length and Thumbnail Size of Posts

Today I am going to tell you how you can modify the size of the post thumbnails. This technique will also help you to increase or decrease the length of the summary text. Yesterday I told you how you can add share buttons to blogger. I hope that post was very useful for you. You can also check my other post to chane the size of first letter in post.

What is Awesome?

This trick will help you to add more posts at your homepage. If you decrease thumbnail size then you page will load quicker. You can add more posts at home page. Although I don’t commend you to set more pages at the homepage because everybody don’t have hi speed internet. Don’t make people hate your blog. I think you must not set more than 6 posts at your homepage.

Backup your Template

All you have to do is to make some changes in your blog html. This is easy but if you don’t have sufficient knowledge about html, then don’t try it. You must back up your blogger template before you carry on. Let me tell you how can you back up your blogger template!

Log in to your blogger account
Open your blog
Go to Templates > Backup/Restore
Click on “Download Full Template”
Download your blogger template and you are done :)

Method

Now get back to our original tutorial. If you want to make any change in summary text and post thumbnail then follow these simple steps.

Login to your blooger accout
Open your blog which you want to change
Go to Templates > Edit HTML
Click Expand Widget Templates
Now search for this tag

summary_noimg

here you will find a code something like this,

<script type='text/javascript'>var thumbnail_mode = "no-float" ;
summary_noimg = 385;
summary_img = 285;

img_thumb_height = 120;
img_thumb_width = 170;
</script>

summary_noimg = 385 indicate the length of the summary text when your post has no image in it.
summary_img = 285 indicates the length of the summary text when your post has any image in it.

Similarly the second code indicates the width and height of the image thumbnails. Here you can increase or decrease the anything you want.

Before You Go

This method is on for those users who use external blogger template. I mean if you use any third part blogger template then this is effective for you. try it and tell me if you face any problem. This trick is for posts shown at the homepage, it will not hurt your original post when you open it. :)
